LAGOON ATTRACTIONS

Our headquarters is located on the beautiful Holonga Lagoon, which is within paddling distance to numerous historical landmarks: Captain Cook’s Landing, Terraced Tombs, Moʻungatapu Island, Moʻunu Island, Kauvai Royal Residence, and Nukuleka (oldest settlement in Western Polynesia). You will be paddling next to protected mangrove forests, which are also home to numerous wildlife including reef heron (motuku) and grey duck (toloa). Also frequently spotted are the native peka or flying foxes (fruit bats with fox-like heads). At low tide we also occasionally have fishing pigs (local Tongan pigs fishing for shellfish). To fully appreciate Tonga’s beauty and culture, you must experience it from the water – the ancient highways of Polynesians. Come watch the sun set behind Moʻungatapu island or enjoy a picnic on Moʻunu island. Don’t be amazed if you find yourself surprisingly alone on our beautiful lagoon – this in Tonga after all – an undeveloped destination and off the beaten path!

BEYOND THE LAGOON:

For the more adventurous kayakers (although we only recommend this for experienced kayakers or suggest having one of our guides accompany you), you can venture outside of the lagoon and visit a chain of islands with white sand beaches & premium snorkeling including Pangaimotu Island. Snorkeling gear & dry bags are available for rent. You can also experience island hopping and amazing snorkeling by taking one of our adventure tours.
